My Thoughts: Falling Kingdoms By Morgan Rhodes

"In a land where magic has been forgotten but peace has reigned for centuries, a deadly unrest is simmering. Three kingdoms grapple for power--brutally transforming their subjects' lives in the process. Amidst betrayals, bargains, and battles, four young people find their fates forever intertwined:
Cleo: A princess raised in luxury must embark on a rough and treacherous journey into enemy territory in search of a magic long thought extinct.
Jonas: Enraged at injustice, a rebel lashes out against the forces of oppression that have kept his country impoverished--and finds himself the leader of a people's revolution centuries in the making.
Lucia: A girl adopted at birth into a royal family discovers the truth about her past--and the supernatural legacy she is destined to wield.
Magnus: Bred for aggression and trained to conquer, a firstborn son begins to realize that the heart can be more lethal than the sword...
The only outcome that's certain is that kingdoms will fall. Who will emerge triumphant when all they know has collapsed?"-Amazon

My Thoughts:
I wanted so bad for this book to be good, but alas, I wasn't gripped.
It wasn't a terrible book, or anything of the like, but it was- shall I say- Odd. (In both the cover choice, and the actual content)
First off- you have three different characters. Cleo; the Aurorian princess with a rebellious heart, Jonas; the almost deranged madman who hates Cleo for his brother's death more than the actual murderer, and Magnus- the smooth and cunning Prince raised from birth by a cruel and perceptive King. The premise of their problems is quite simple: Cleo is going to be married off to drunken prince,  Jonas has a bad life and hates everyone who's life is better, and Magnus is trying to cope with his "love felt" emotions. Everyone caught up? Good. Here's the annoying part: NONE OF THESE CHARACTERS ACTUALLY MET.
Well.... not really at least. They did of course, see each other and exchange a few words- but that was about it. As I slowly read on, I  discovered that this was a war book. None of these characters on the cover-jacket were actually supposed to join together.  They were all supposed to fight on opposite sides of the war, and constantly bump into one another when the time suited it. These guys are supposed to be all enemies. So be warned readers. There is no magical joined quest to find magic! (like the cover & blurb implies)
Besides, the characters I found the book to be decent enough. I really didn't like the ending though, the cliffhanger didn't seem very authentic.

  1. I've been wondering about this book, I want to read it but don't know much about it! This sounded like a love triangle but you say they never really meet, that sounds frustrating. Hmm, second guessing this one now.
